BRITISH EMBASSY ALGIERS – JOB VACANCY RETURNS LIAISON OFFICER
The Chancery Section at the British Embassy is recruiting a Returns Liaison Officer. The job will start immediately with annual renewable contracts upon successful completion of a 3-month probation period. The appointment is subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearance. The jobholder may need to be able to travel to the UK as part of their work, and due to the nature of the work, must not have an adverse immigration history.
Main duties
Your role will be to assist UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to implement the UK’s border control policy, with emphasis on preventing illegal migration. You will be the Algerian representative of a friendly, supportive team, many of whom will be based in the UK. The job offers a varied and interesting work portfolio which includes:
– Verifying information provided by UKVI in relation to potential returnees, including undertaking telephone interviews with potential returnees in French and Arabic to obtain further data and feedback to UKVI colleagues;
– Acting as Project Manager and Embassy liaison for UKVI’s Returns Project;
– Embassy lead on migration related issues, particularly with regard to UKVI’s policy on illegal migration;
– Maintaining and developing a useful network of contacts with key players in Algeria, and representing the Embassy/UKVI at local meetings in order to support UKVI returns;
– Media reporting to UKVI on regional migration trends where there is an impact on returns;
– Acting as point of contact for returns enquiries from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and UKVI.
We require:
You will have a flexible attitude, the ability to keep calm under pressure and enjoy meeting a variety of people. Specific skills include:
– Strong oral and written English language skills and fluent French and Arabic;
– Good interpersonal and communications skills with people of all levels;
– The ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines;
– MS Office skills with familiarisation of the use of the World Wide Web as a research tool;
– Ability to analyse complex and often incomplete data and the capability to make decisions based on that analysis;
– Managing large volumes of data and maintaining the accuracy of that data;
– Managing a project budget to ensure there is no overspend;
– Ability to work with limited supervision, as part of a remote working team.
We offer:
– A monthly salary depending on experience plus allowances;
– 25 days paid leave annually along with 14 days paid public holidays;
– A working week of 37.5 hours (Sunday – Thursday; 08:00 – 15:30hrs) with half-an-hour for lunch. Out of hours work will occasionally be necessary but time off in lieu will be given;
– A good working environment in a modern, purpose-built office. You will be able to use the Embassy’s recreational facilities (pool, gym & tennis courts) after working hours. The Embassy also has a social club.
